"This world is full of conflicts and things that cannot be reconciled, but there are moments when we can embrace the whole mess.” --Leonard Cohen
My paintings smash space and shatter perspective, suggesting scale shifts, micro, macro and everything in between. Quantum connections, internal states, urban architectures, and cosmic relationships are all re-mixed in spatially slippery fractal repetitions. There is an emotional knowledge base and agency in the stuff of matter that we access through our senses. Painting is a passing through material, a transiting.
These are rhizomatic assemblages; the deposit of experience is encrusted onto the complex layered surface and the energies emanating from stuff brought together. I aim to be transmissive rather than expressive, irrational rather than reasoned, free flow rather than coerced by desire or intent. Paul Klee talked about the artist as conduit. Movements and shifts and flows of mind and matter are not random and not controlled, but connected, or conducted. We exist in eddies of matter: time is full of meaningful vortices and painting is a passage or a conduit through the vortex.
Art is my intent to leave an animated state of matter that charges itself to the point where I don’t matter.
